What happened in 2016?

The SNP remained the largest party but lost the outright majority it had won in 2011. The Conservatives became the second-largest party by seats.

Scottish Parliament elections use the Additional Member System: 73 constituency MSPs are combined with 56 regional MSPs. The two ballots mean constituency and regional vote shares are separate measures.
