UKDecides does not endorse political parties, candidates or referendum choices. The site is not affiliated with Parliament, the Electoral Commission or any political party.
Facts, measurements and interpretation
Polling measurements, official results, historical records and editorial explanation are treated as different things. A poll is a measurement from a particular sample and fieldwork period, not an election result. Historical data is dated. Notional results are labelled as such.
Primary sourcing
Where practical, UKDecides links to the underlying pollster, Parliament, Electoral Commission, official statistical body or other primary source. Secondary reporting may be useful for context, but it should not replace an available primary source for a factual claim or dataset.
Consistent treatment
Parties and candidates should be treated consistently in tables, databases and historical records. Polling data should not be included or excluded because a particular result is convenient or inconvenient.
Corrections
Errors should be corrected when identified. Data may also change because an official source has revised its figures. Where the distinction matters, UKDecides aims to show the relevant date, boundary basis or reference period.
Opinion and analysis
Most of UKDecides is designed around factual reference material and data. Where analysis or interpretation appears, it should be distinguishable from the underlying facts and should not be presented as an instruction on how readers should vote.
