UKDECIDES REFERENCE

Methodology

How UKDecides handles polls, polling averages, election data and sources.

This page explains how UKDecides collects, displays and, where applicable, calculates political data.

Polling database

Each polling entry should identify the pollster, fieldwork dates, sample size, published vote shares and source. We prefer the pollster’s own release or tables where available.

Polling averages

UKDecides does not currently publish a proprietary polling average. If we introduce one, the calculation method, inclusion rules, treatment of fieldwork dates and any weighting choices will be published here before the figure is presented as a UKDecides measure.

Election results

Election results are sourced from official declarations and reputable parliamentary datasets. Corrections to source datasets may be reflected after publication.

Neutrality

The purpose of UKDecides is to help readers inspect political and electoral information. We do not endorse parties, candidates or referendum choices.

Dates and revisions

Political data changes. Pages should display the relevant election date, poll fieldwork dates or data update date so that historical information is not mistaken for current information.
