Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 September 2026

UK Decides is an independent polling, elections and political-data website published by an independent UK online publisher with more than 25 years’ experience producing specialist information websites. This privacy policy explains what information may be collected when you use the site, why it is used and the choices available to you.

Who we are

For data-protection purposes, UK Decides.com is the controller of personal information collected directly through UK Decides. The site is editorially independent and is not affiliated with Parliament, the Electoral Commission or any political party.

You can contact us at info@ukdecides.com.

Information we may collect

Most of UK Decides can be used without giving us your name or contact details. We may nevertheless process limited information in the following circumstances:

  • Website usage information – such as pages viewed, referrers, browser and device information, approximate location derived from network information and other technical data used for traffic analysis.
  • Server and security logs – our hosting and security systems may record technical information such as IP addresses, request details and timestamps for security, reliability and abuse prevention.
  • Information you send us – if you contact us by email, we receive your email address and anything else you choose to include in your message.

Analytics

We use Clicky to measure and understand traffic to UK Decides. Clicky may process information including pages viewed, links clicked, referrers, browser and device information, screen resolution, language and network information. Clicky’s default visitor-privacy settings use anonymised IP addresses and do not use tracking cookies, although the precise information processed can depend on the analytics configuration and the visitor’s circumstances.

You can read Clicky’s privacy policy for more information.

Cookies and similar technologies

WordPress and services used by the site may use cookies or similar technologies where necessary for functionality, security or administration. Analytics or other non-essential technologies may also be used where permitted. Where consent is legally required for a non-essential cookie or similar technology, it should only be used after that consent has been obtained.

You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings.

Why we use information

We use information where necessary to operate and secure the website, understand how it is used, respond to messages, investigate technical problems and protect the site against misuse. Depending on the circumstances, our lawful basis may be our legitimate interests in running, improving and securing UK Decides, or consent where consent is required.

Who information may be shared with

We do not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers that help us operate the site, including our web host and analytics provider. We may also disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Email correspondence may be retained while an enquiry is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Technical and analytics information is retained according to the operational, security and account-retention settings of the relevant service.

International processing

Some service providers may process information outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we expect the relevant provider to use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism.

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to ask for access to your personal information, correction or deletion of it, restriction of processing, objection to processing, or transfer of information you provided. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent.

To make a privacy request, email info@ukdecides.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we use personal information, please contact us first at info@ukdecides.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
