What happened in 2011?

The DUP retained 38 seats and Sinn Féin won 29. The five largest parties continued to account for most Assembly seats.

Northern Ireland Assembly elections use Single Transferable Vote (STV). At this election, each of the 18 constituencies returned six MLAs. First-preference vote share is therefore only one part of the count because later preferences can transfer between candidates.
