Source and coverage

The House of Commons Library's combined historical dataset contains constituency results from 1918 to 2019, including votes, vote shares, electorate and turnout. The 2024 dataset is based on verified official declarations from local authorities. Constituency boundaries changed repeatedly over the period, so comparisons across boundary sets need care.

About historical comparisons

Constituency boundaries changed after several reviews, including changes affecting elections in 1945, 1950, 1955, 1974, 1983, 1997, 2005/2010 and 2024. The Commons Library dataset identifies historical boundary sets to help distinguish comparable periods.

For 2010 onwards, Parliament's dedicated results service provides party, constituency, majority, turnout and candidate-level result pages. Earlier elections remain available through the Commons Library's combined historical dataset while UK Decides builds out the older constituency-level archive.
