BIOGRAPHY · EARLY LIFE AND CAREER

Mr Bayo Alaba: biography and parliamentary career

Bayo Alaba worked in business, community projects and the armed forces before becoming a Member of Parliament. His own website describes him as a former soldier and business owner with experience organising teams and developing commercial projects. He has been involved in Labour campaigning in south Essex and in promoting opportunities for local employers and residents.

Alaba was elected Labour MP for Southend East and Rochford in July 2024, becoming the constituency's first Labour representative. His parliamentary interests have included coastal infrastructure, affordable housing, the local economy and protecting green spaces and the marine environment. He has also engaged with the creative industries and local firms. In August 2026 Labour withdrew the parliamentary whip while an investigation concerning earlier business loans was reported; Parliament records him as an independent MP.

Alaba has served on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee and continued constituency work involving investment in Shoeburyness and Southend, housing development, transport and community services. His campaigning has emphasised jobs, public services and protecting local amenities. His current parliamentary affiliation should be taken from Parliament rather than earlier Labour campaign material.
