BIOGRAPHY · EARLY LIFE AND CAREER

Adnan Hussain: biography and parliamentary career

Adnan Hussain was born in Burnley, Lancashire, in 1989 and attended school in Brierfield before studying law at the University of Central Lancashire. He qualified as a solicitor in 2022 and worked in Blackburn's legal profession, including as a director of Bank View Solicitors. He also has business interests in property companies.

Hussain entered national politics by standing as an independent in Blackburn at the July 2024 general election. Campaigning heavily on the war in Gaza and dissatisfaction with Labour's position, he defeated Labour incumbent Kate Hollern by just 132 votes. The result ended Labour's continuous hold on the Blackburn parliamentary seat dating back to the mid-1950s.

As an independent MP, Hussain has taken positions that cross traditional party divisions, including on civil liberties and international affairs. His route into Parliament was unlike that of MPs who rose through a party organisation: he entered as a practising legal professional and defeated an established party in a seat widely associated with Labour. Parliament's records confirm that he has sat as an independent throughout his parliamentary career.
