BIOGRAPHY · EARLY LIFE AND CAREER
Alex Easton was elected independent unionist MP for North Down at the July 2024 general election. Before entering Westminster he represented the same area in the Northern Ireland Assembly, having first been elected in 2003. He originally served as a Democratic Unionist Party representative but left the party in 2021 and continued his Assembly career as an independent.
Easton spent more than two decades in Northern Ireland politics before his election to the House of Commons. His Assembly work involved constituency representation and scrutiny of devolved policy. In the 2024 Westminster election he defeated the Alliance Party's Stephen Farry in North Down, an electoral contest that brought his long career in regional politics to the UK Parliament.
As an independent MP, Easton is not part of a Westminster party parliamentary group. He represents a constituency that includes Bangor and surrounding communities on the County Down coast. Parliament's official records provide his Commons election and career details. His earlier Assembly service is important background to understanding his political experience and the local issues he brings to Westminster.
