What happened in 1998?

The first election to the post-Agreement Northern Ireland Assembly returned the UUP as the largest party with 28 seats.

Northern Ireland Assembly elections use Single Transferable Vote (STV). At this election, each of the 18 constituencies returned six MLAs. First-preference vote share is therefore only one part of the count because later preferences can transfer between candidates.
