What happened in 2003?

Labour remained the largest party with 50 seats. The election also returned larger Green and Scottish Socialist groups than in 1999.

Scottish Parliament elections use the Additional Member System: 73 constituency MSPs are combined with 56 regional MSPs. The two ballots mean constituency and regional vote shares are separate measures.
